About
스튜디오 스튜디오는 건축을 새로운 것으로 만드는 일이라기보다, 이미 주어진 것들을 다시 읽고 필요한 만큼만 고쳐 쓰는 일에 가깝게 생각합니다.
대지, 예산, 용도, 법규뿐 아니라, 기존의 구조와 재료, 흔적, 사용자의 습관, 시간이 남긴 상태들이 작업을 시작하게 합니다.
우리는 저가공(Low-Processing)이라는 말을 즐겨합니다. 가능하면 덜 만들자는 태도인데, 공사의 모든 것이 '돈'과 '환경'에 관련되어 있기 때문입니다. 그래서 우리의 작업은 종종 무언가를 더 만드는 대신 어디까지 만들지를 결정하는 일이 되기도 합니다.
스튜디오 스튜디오는 규격 목재를 좋아합니다. 나무의 따뜻함, 나이듦도 좋지만, 목재의 가공성, 수급의 편리, 수정 가능성, 재활용 가능성을 생각하면 공사함에 있어 산업재인 목재만큼 훌륭한 재료는 존재하지 않는다는 생각입니다.
한편, 우리는 여전히 건물의 비례, 구조의 질서, 그리고 무엇이 아름다운가에 대해 오래 고민합니다. 가능한 덜 개입하려 하면서도 동시에 더 나은 비례와 더 명확한 물성을 찾습니다.
이것은 모순처럼 보일 수도 있습니다. 어쩌면 개념적 오류일지도 모릅니다. 하지만 우리는 이 긴장을 포기하지 않습니다.
그래서 우리는 건축에 대한 하나의 주장을 세우기보다 각 프로젝트가 요구하는 조건 속에서 그때마다 건축의 역할을 다시 묻습니다.

Studio Studio thinks of architecture less as the work of making things new than as the careful rereading of what is already there, rewriting only what is necessary.
A project begins not only with the site, budget, programme, and regulations, but also with existing structures and materials, traces of previous use, the habits of its users, and the conditions left by time.
We often use the term Low-Processing. It describes an attitude of building as little as possible, because everything involved in construction is connected to both money and the environment. Our work, therefore, often becomes a matter of deciding how far to build rather than what more to add.
Studio Studio likes standardised timber. We appreciate its warmth and the way it ages, but we are equally interested in its workability, availability, adaptability, and potential for reuse. Considering these qualities, we believe there are few materials as practical for construction as industrially produced timber.
At the same time, we continue to think carefully about the proportions of a building, the order of its structure, and what makes something beautiful. While trying to intervene as little as possible, we also search for better proportions and a clearer material character.
This may seem contradictory. It may even be a conceptual error. But we do not abandon this tension.
Rather than putting forward a single claim about architecture, we ask again, with each project and within the conditions it presents, what role architecture should play.
